33 Integrated Planning

Integrated Planning is the alignment, within a traditional project plan, of the efforts required to shift the phase of value creation maturity in an organization. “How do we get all of this hard work to pay off?”.

Value creation maturity assessment (the Governance of Value Creation version of a financial audit) identifies where practices are not currently sufficient to need. Rather than just working hard on a well-meaning transformation project, the Value Creation Maturity Assessment focusses effort onto what is specifically required to upgrade the organizational machine to deliver Governance of Value Creation outcomes.

Research and theory have identified a set of phases of maturity that describe what is commonly observed in many of our large-scale organizations.

The majority of organizations operate in a phase of maturity known as the Islands of Excellence. These organizations have invested heavily in improved practice in significant attempts to achieve improved performance. But they still struggle to realize the benefits of an effective operation. They are great at some things, but they just can’t seem to bring it together.

Integrated Planning is about making sure that everyone who is working so hard to improve the performance of the organisation – is working in harmony to a consistent plan.
